The Team

Karen : – OWNER

Karen bought Newlands in 1995; with no facilities but 3 old derelict buildings. Her aim was to create a special place where clients could enjoy this amazing location just as she did. Being able to ride from the fields and the yard straight onto the open New Forest without roads. She also wanted to offer a special place for clients to relax and enjoy their time with their horses but also have the benefit of having the back up of a happy professional support team, if and when needed.

Nick : – OWNER

Nick, Karen’s husband is Mr Build, Fix & Mend. He does all our land care at the farm, makes our hay and ensures we keep well stocked with supplies. He is a builder by trade and has built the farm as it is today, including our fabulous Mane Room. He also built and maintains the manege for us too. He particularly enjoys the land care, but we think this is because he gets some peace and quiet when in his tractor away from all the ladies!!

Anna has been at Newlands for over 8 years now. After gaining her BSc Ecolgy and Wildlife conservation she took up the position as Farm Manager. Anna is ‘right hand man’ to farm owners, Karen and Nick carrying out all horse/farm duties. Anna is responsible for our trees/hedges, fencing, land care and horse transporting. She loves driving tractors (the bigger the better!) and thrives on being a busy bee.

Anna works closely in a supporting role to Amelia the Yard Manager, but mostly alongside Nick in our ongoing list of improvements at the farm, land and buildings – which is a often never ending!

When not at the farm she is found either swimming in muddy water with wild elephants or counting Moose poo in Norway!!! Yes really…… but when a few hours spare love’s playing a game of Polo and walking her dog ‘Lacey’ and producing her youngster ‘Ziggy’. She has a real love of all animals that is so evident for all to see.

Amelia, began her love of horses from a young age, working alongside her Aunt in the New Forest. Followed by gaining a wealth of experience working at riding schools, hunting and racing yards, and running a small livery yard, then working at the Fortune Centre, teaching young adults with learning difficulties life skills, through horses.

She was approached by the owners of Newlands, accepting the Yard managers position in 2018. Since then Amelia has trained a reliable, caring happy team, installing in them, her own high level of equine care throughout.

Amelia’s love and attentiveness to the horses is clear to see. On her rest days, Amelia loves hunting with various packs go hounds on her horse ‘Manny’ as well as being with her young cattle dog ‘Tally’.

Izzy regularly exercises and helps with our clients horses and loves producing our young horses & ponies from breaking them in to riding them at competition level.  She originally trained under four-star rider Harry Meade before coming back to us to take up a position. She competes at BE levels and is currently out and about with her lovely mare ‘Lyrie’ at Advanced Dressage.

Izzy is Amelia’s right hand lady and regularly takes sole charge of the yard to make sure the high standards are met and the yard runs smoothly whilst Amelia is off around the farm.

Seb : –

Seb is a long standing key member of staff at Newlands. Seb is very competent and well respected with the medical side of our horses care. He also very much enjoys the land care work – although often has to battle Anna for use of our new big tractor! In his spare time Seb enjoys walking his dog ‘Maisie’ on the New Forest and seeing his rescue horse, ‘Charlie’. He is also a keen photographer.

Helen : –

What can we say apart from WHAT WOULD WE DO WITH OUT HER! Helen started working for Karen in 1992, before she bought the farm. She is a key staff member performing duties such as carrying out field check visits, helping on busy farrier and vet days, doing yards and provides cover for most of the staff days off and holidays.

Destiny : –

Destiny is a key member of the team. In her spare time Destiny enjoys riding her lovely mare Ria and growing her own business.

Molly : –

Molly has recently joined us as an Apprentice and is working towards her Level 2 Equine Groom qualification. Molly can always be found smiling and willing to help! Molly has a love of all animals which is so clear to see.

Abbie : –

Abbie has recently joined us as an Apprentice and is working towards her Level 2 Equine Groom qualification. Abbie enjoys producing her own youngsters and often rides in the Boxing Day point to point!

Pete has been our resident farrier since 2002. Pete is found on the farm every Tuesday where he shoes/trims the majority of our clients horses/ponies. Pete regularly events his own horse

James Howarth : – RESIDENT FARRIER

James has joined our team; assisting Pete shoeing and trimming our liveries.
